Tender Out On Beaudesert Nerang Road Repairs A Win For Community
Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause has welcomed Main Roads decision to call for tenders on Beaudesert Nerang Road at Tabragalba as a massive win for the Scenic Rim.
“I want to see jobs created in our district and having a good road network is absolutely essential – that’s why I’m always fighting for our fair share on roads. Beaudesert Nerang Road, especially near Tabragalba House Road, is an absolute shocker – and has been for some time. I have been in the ear of Main Roads endlessly about it – it’s too narrow, the edges are cracking and with increased truck and caravan/motorhome traffic, it’s just not good enough.”
Mr Krause said that the Queensland Labor Government had cancelled the budget this year, meaning it had not released a road investment program. However, he had obtained a copy of a list of contracts that Main Roads is putting out to be completed, which showed that there was a $6 million contract to be offered to fix Beaudesert Nerang Road at Tabragalba.
“It is great news that Main Roads intends to get on with this work, and not a moment too soon either,” Mr Krause said. “I’ll be satisfied when work gets underway, and not before – the only bad news on this front is that Labor cancelled the budget, so who knows if the money is really there. It’s all smoke and mirrors at the moment from the Government, who are desperate to avoid scrutiny.”
Mr Krause said after his lobbying, repair work on the Laravale stretch of the Mount Lindesay Highway had been brought forward, and next in his sights to get done was the Three Mile Lane just south of Beaudesert. If elected to government, the LNP has committed to bring forward design and planning works to widen the highway south of Jimboomba, along with an additional $40 million to continue duplication works north of Jimboomba.
“There are so many roadworks to be done – it’s a symptom of the $5 billion backlog on road repairs and maintenance we have after 25 of the last 30 years with Labor in office. I’ll keep fighting for our fair share to create jobs locally, make our roads safer and ease congestion up past Jimboomba.”
