A Wop-Bop-A Loo-Bop-A-Lop-Bam-Boom!
Did you get along to Rockin’ Jimmy’s Car Show? You don’t have to be seriously into cars to be able to appreciate the love and attention that has been bestowed upon someone else’s four wheeled pride and joy. Rockin’ Jimmy’s Car show, as an annual event, has been on the calendars of avid car owners since 2014 and held in the grounds of St James Anglican Parish
in Jimboomba. The extravaganza is the brainchild of Father Dan who, as a car enthusiast himself, realised that most car events were being held on a Sunday which clashed with his Parish commitments. So, one Saturday, Rockin’ Jimmy’s was born, devoted to providing interest for the whole family with market stalls, a dedicated kidsland, live music, dancing and food.
Sadly, due to a last-minute breakdown (the car, not Dan), Father Dan’s fully customised 1973 Clubman Mini was not one of the 150 cars being showcased on the day, but the quality and variety of vehicles on display was mind boggling. Noel O’Driscoll, President of the Early Falcon Club lovingly itemised his 1962 XL V8 sedans details, the 302 Windsor, aluminium heads, rack and pinion power steering, and was that colour Wild Violet? How dare you! It is of course V8 Purple Haze. Dave’s 61 EK Holden in Jaguar Blue couldn’t be any niftier with its Mother of Pearl steering wheel, original grey motor, spats, and rear Venetian blind. Fluffy dice – be gone – it’s a dangly
Elvis here!
Sometimes the car is merely one part of a whole lifestyle, and Cadillac Jack, who had travelled from Ipswich to be here, posed proudly beside the 1956 Cadillac that he built himself in a 12 month long project. Jack’s claim to fame is as one of the rare male pinup models for Retro Era Products such as men’s pomade. His current lifestyle comes after 713 days sober, he now proudly supports Drug Arm and is loving his new way of life. The friendly and supportive atmosphere of this St James Parish event drew him here for the first time in 2020 and he was most keen to return.
A Rock-n-Roll / Rockabilly theme infused the event with the discerning rock-n-rollers live band of choice ‘Little Stevie and the Tailfins’ pumping out the beat. A crowd of movers and shakers, including members of the local Logan Village Rockers, burned up the dance floor, possibly in part because it was so hot their linoleum was melting!
The Op-Shop was open, community info and market stalls bustling, and burgers a-cooking all to a rock-n-roll beat, whilst a bevy of admirers marvelled at the glistening automobile display. A swag of entertainment for very little money, which helps enable St James Anglican Church to provide much needed support to a host of local charities. With 23 categories of awards up for grabs, the winners have been announced on Rockin’ Jimmy’s facebook page.
