Eco Festival & Official Pizza Oven Opening

Families were recently welcomed to join Cedar Creek State School students at their incredible Eco Festival. Held in conjunction with the Albert Valley Wilderness Society, it was an event of ‘flourishing’ ‘growing up green’ activities and workshops – and a very special official opening of the school’s brand-new Wood Fired Pizza Oven, kindly donated and constructed by
Aussie Woodfired Ovens.

Workshops included: ‘Bush Tucker Cooking with Bush Spices & Herbal Drinks’, ‘Basket Weaving’, ‘Emu Painting’, ‘Indigenous Nature Craft including Talking Sticks and Nature Wands’, ‘Substation 33 – Dismantling Computer Equipment to make Electronic Waste Jewellery’, ‘Wombat Stew & Mud Pie Making’, ‘River Bank Restoration’, ‘Ocean Life Education by Leah Allen’, ‘Seed Bombs by YSSC Students’, ‘Birdwinged Butterflies by Entomology Consultant Richard Bull’, and of course ‘Pizza Making & Tasting by Chef Master – Principal Mike Meier’.

Gemma’s Animal Farm also attended with a myriad of baby farm animals including one pesky goat who delighted in sitting outside the pen only returning when he felt like some company and a snack! Author Shevaun Russell, from the Albert Valley Wilderness Society, presented her latest book
‘The Nagging Nuisance – A Story Full Of Rubbish’ with colourful bin characters created from her story about recycling.

It was an amazing festival filled with engaging eco and enviro activities – and we can attest firsthand that the pizzas were wonderfully delicious!
