TM Scarecrow Festival Trail Of Fun
“Why Did The Scarecrow Win An Award? Because He Was Outstanding In His Field!”
The Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival held at the end of October saw many ‘strawman’ entries registered and placed along the trail for local residents to enjoy during the ‘Season of Halloween’.
Mountain Strawmen
Despite the constant threats of Covid restrictions and the weather conditions, the Scarecrow Festival was ‘dressed for success’! Next year will be the 15th Year of the Festival and the team are looking forward to a time when hopefully Covid restrictions will be a ‘scary thing of the past’.
There are 12 Categories in the Festival, the ‘Best’ in each category receives a
Certificate and a Cash Prize of $100. As well, there are 10 individual ‘Best Scarecrow by a Child’ each who receives a Certificate and a Cash Prize of $25. The Scarecrow judged “Best in Show” received a Certificate and a Cash Prize of $250.
The categories were: Creative, Celebrity, Traditional, Business, Association/Club, Mountain School, Kindy, Family, Country Cousin, Child, 1st Time in the Field and People’s Choice. The 1st Time in the Field is for families/folk who have never entered a Scarecrow before. Each registered Scarecrow was placed on the Trail to be judged. But there were many families who placed Scarecrows on the Trail who were not registered – a bit of scarecrow fun for all the family!
Country Cousins
For the first time in festival history, entry was opened to the mountain’s ‘Country Cousins’ for any scarecrow who resided off the mountain in the local area. Congratulations went to Scarecrow Country Cousins Category Winner ‘Mrs Potts’ –with her Certificate and Prize Money presented at the Awards Ceremony held at Club Tamborine (Bowls Club). Congratulations must also go to ‘Lady Scarecrow’ who was awarded a Special Mention Certificate. Both Scarecrows were able to be viewed in Wongawallan Road
(opposite the Heritage Centre) at Eagle Heights along the trail during the festival.
The team would like to thank all their sponsors – who can be found with a special thank you on their Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival Facebook page.
