BUDGET
You should have all received your 2022/2023 Rates notices by now and I encourage everyone to make use of the 5% discount for payment within 30 days.
This year saw a 4% increase in the rates revenue that is required by Council. There is some misconception within the community that the 4% Rate increase is the increase to your individual rates, this is not the case. Some ratepayers will see no increase and others will meet the capping of 9% that we have on rates. This is due to the different increases in land valuations that rates are worked from.
I am currently doing a presentation to show how rates are worked out and should have it ready for next month.
This budget saw an initiative from Councillors for $750,000 to be directly used to upgrade or install new field lighting at our sporting fields. This will enable sporting clubs to better use fielding during the winter months and also allow for other uses.
ROADS
Potholes, Pothole, Potholes … This is a major issue across all Councils, big or small. The 6 months of continuous wet weather has seen a mountain of work for our road maintenance crews who look after nearly 1800km of roads. If you see any potholes, please email a picture with a location to mail@scenicrim.qld.gov.au or if you consider it dangerous, please phone our call centre on ph 5540 5111 (this is also after hours).
If you are not sure whether it is a Council road or a State road please go to the Department of Main Roads website for the South Coast Roads Map. Main Roads email is southcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au or ph 131 940.
