Scenic Rim Regional Council is saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Mayor Greg Christensen echoed the sentiments of many people within our region, across the Commonwealth and around the world upon hearing of Her Majesty’s passing.
“The passing of Queen Elizabeth II has brought great shock and sorrow to many of us”.
“The Queen embodied the true meaning of duty, and her commitment to public service across the Commonwealth was nothing short of extraordinary”, he said.
“Her tremendous charm, wit, and sincerity won the hearts of millions of people. Her ability to connect with her community and constituents around the globe through her renowned dignity and grace was truly respected”.
Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch of the Commonwealth, having succeeded to the throne on 6 February 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI. The Queen was crowned on 2 June 1953.
“Throughout her reign, the Queen demonstrated extreme prowess, innovation, evolution and conformity to support her constituents across the Commonwealth, which was inspirational”.
As a sign of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, flags at Council’s facilities will be flown at half-mast from today until the day after Her Majesty’s funeral, in accordance with the Commonwealth Flag network directives.
Council is currently reviewing whether there may be any interruptions to Council’s civic events as a mark of respect to Her Majesty. Further details will be released in due course.

Queenslanders will have an opportunity to express their grief and condolences at an online condolence book, which will be available at www.qld.gov.au/condolences. This will be presented to the Royal Family.
