A ‘Day Of Delight’ On The Mountain …
After almost 200mm of rain fell on the mountain the day before commencement of the annual Springtime On The Mountain Festival of Open Gardens, hosted by Tamborine Mountain Garden Club, the event had to then be ‘squished’ into one day only following cancellation of the first day.
Completing the trail of five private Open Gardens, three Mountain Nurseries, the Landcare Centre, the Botanic Gardens, and the Tamborine Mountain Showgrounds for refreshments became a challenge, albeit an enjoyable one, for visitors.
The Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens held a massive plant sale for both days and saw record sales for the first day.
First garden visited was the ‘Flower Farm’ on Slingsby Road – a huge garden with a delight at every turn.
‘Hall-Roland Garden’ on Caryota Court presented an integration of native and exotic species ‘be-jewelled’ with a magnificent coastal view, and a perfect setting for the ‘Bella a Capella Choir’.
Across the road on Caryota Court, ‘Arawee’ created fascination with its meandering pathways of design and propagation greenhouse for plants to support populations of the spectacular Richmond Birdwing Butterfly by owner semi-retired consultant entomologist Richard Bull.
‘Maison De Fleurs’ at Griffith Street was its own ‘festival of colour’ including stunning poppies and wearable art by the ‘Wearable Art Girls’ (WAGs).
‘Tregartha’ on Moreton Bay Avenue offered serene ambiance showcased with beautiful Wisteria and other wonders of interest including a ‘well thought out’ vege garden. Popular Men’s Shed singers “The Offcuts” entertained in the morning.
The whole day was jam packed with wonderlands of mountain delight – a very enjoyable festival despite the rainy start!
