Help Document The Biodiversity Of Our Area
You can join flora and fauna experts on October 7th and October 8th along Black Rock Road, Coochin to help document the biodiversity in the area.
Scenic Rim Regional Council, with support of Watergum, is very excited to announce The Scenic
Rim BioBlitz on October 7th and 8th in Coochin, QLD. Scenic Rim Regional Council is welcoming
the Scenic Rim community to join experts during on-ground survey. You will be able to learn
from the best!
The Scenic Rim region contains more than 30,000 hectares of parkland, including national
parks and council controlled parks. The region also contains three dams: Lake Moogerah, Lake
Maroon and Lake Wyaralong.
Natural Resources Officer at Land for Wildlife, Catherine Madden explains that Bioblitz surveys
are a great way to find out what biodiversity our natural habitats are home to.
“There are so many creatures that we are still discovering on a day to day basis, and right now,
your local community could be the one to find new species to science!’.
This event will be taking place in along Black Rock Road in Coochin and will include 10 biodiversity surveys over 2 days in the field, where attendees will have the opportunity to assist wildlife experts and scientists in their comprehensive documentation of the Scenic Rim’s
spectacular flora and fauna. Surveys include Insect, Fungi, Nightspotting, Bats, Botany and
Birds, so there is certainly a survey for everyone!
Watergum’s executive officer, Rosalinde Brinkman, encourages all members in the Scenic Rim
area to get outside and get involved in developing their knowledge and appreciate of the
natural world. “BioBlitz are fun, especially when you can discover creatures in your own
backyard, you will be amazing at how much you can find around your own home and local
park, but first you learn from the experts!”.
The Scenic Rim Bioblitz will assist in the collection of valuable species data seeing as the Scenic
Rim area is of great environmental significance. “We want the Scenic Rim community to have
lots of fun, learn valuable skills and to be a part of something real!” Said Miss Brinkman.
Scenic Rim Regional Council is committed to the conservation and enhancement of the region’s
natural resources and environment. Council seeks to deliver a range of positive environmental
outcomes through a variety of programs which support the efforts of individuals and organisations.
