Donald was born in Brisbane 27th August 1956.
He was the second born child to Ian and Shirley Martin.
Don came to live at Tamborine in 1957 when his father returned to help run the family dairy farm on the property known as Riemore. There he attended primary school at Tamborine, followed by secondary schooling at Beaudesert High School. Don left school in year 10 at the age of 15, to pursue a Bricklaying apprenticeship.
In 1976 Don was sworn as a Police Officer, where he worked passionately at for almost 40 years. Don was involved in volunteer positions with them including the PCYC which he was a dedicated member of the board and volunteer for many years, even post retirement.
After graduating from the Police Academy, Don was posted to Mount Isa where he met and married his (now ex wife) Coral Steel. Don and Coral had three children: Coral, Shona, and Donald Jnr.
Don’s children went on to bless him with five cherished Grandchildren: Jeremy, Shania, Kendaar, Kayla and Baby Jimmy.
After Don’s children moved away from Mount Isa, his roots called him back home to Tamborine he was transferred to the Jimboomba Police Station.
Don was stationed at Jimboomba until his retirement in 2016. During his time at Jimboomba Don trained and mentored young constables and it was very touching to see just how many young police officers attended his retirement send off, to pay their respects.
