Psychology Service With A Difference Opens On Tamborine Mountain …
A new psychology centre on Tamborine Mountain is set to change the way people think about a visit to the psychologist. Mountain locals Fergus Trevethan and Louisa Honan created Our Space Psychology as a place for people to feel at home.
‘We understand that going to a psychologist can be confronting and we didn’t want Our Space to feel like a sterile clinic, so we’ve created a warm, welcoming space for people of all ages,’ Louisa said.
‘We have a play area for the little kids, a computer for the bigger kids to be entertained, lounges and bean bags for people to relax – and that’s just our waiting area.’
Visitors can help themselves to tea, coffee and cookies whilst relaxing inside or on the balcony, overlooking the beautiful mountain treescape, while their family member is in session.
‘Sometimes in life things feel really heavy and you need a space to be able to get the right support in an environment you feel safe and at ease – we hope people will find their place here at Our Space,’ Louisa, a counsellor specialising in support for women and mothers, said.
Our Space Psychology offers therapy for individuals across the lifespan (children to elderly) and group family therapy.
Fergus, a registered psychologist and schoolteacher for more than a decade, also offers a range of educational, behavioural, and functional assessments for children.
‘At the end of the day, we want the best outcome for anyone who walks through our door, so they can live a happy and fulfilled life. We’re interested in tangible outcomes for our clients that have real life impact, whether that’s putting strategies in place to better manage anxiety, getting them back to work, or building a child’s confidence at school,’ Fergus said. ‘We’re here to listen and help.’
