And Sail On A Bike … Well Kinda!
We all know the Melbourne Cup is in November, the cricket’s all Summer long, and the Stat Of Origin is on as I write, but for a complete outside the square article this month, I decided to investigate some of the sports events that the time rich could make an itiniery to travel and see.
- We begin in January and head to the Australian OpenTennis, it’s on in Melbourne and well worth a look.
- The City of Churches hosts an 11 day cycling race, theSantos Down Under, the largest cycling race in the Southern hemisphere and also holds a January timeslot.
- Get your motor racing in March, the Australian Grand Prix is in Melbourne.
- Hang ten at Bells Beach, the Margaret River, and the Gold Coast for the World’s Surfing Championships, they’re on from March through to May.
- We enter the Territory in May and this place is called Ulara for the Ulara Camel Cup for a uniquely Australian event, this is one I’ve definitely added to my bucket list.
- Beat the Winter chills in August, we’re going to beautiful Hamilton Island, it hosts Australia’s largest offshore sailing Regatta.
- Don’t forget the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December. So there you go, something for everyone, to use one of my favourite expressions – a real mixed grill!
Until I see you in July at the Gold Coast Halfand Full Marathons, let’s travel!
