Local Newspaper ‘Retired’ After 32 Years
After more than 32 years in the newspaper business, Tamborine Times Editor Barbara Proudman said it was time to hang up the editor’s hat. After her last edition on 16 April 2024, with a sad yet fulfilled heart, Barbara made the following comments:
“It is with great deliberation that I have made the difficult decision to retire as I approach the age of 76!
I would like to thank the local community for its incredible support over these 32 years, with this publication, and as a local business. This couldn’t have been possible without the support of all the staff over the years, the many loyal advertisers, the amazing contributors and story tellers, and the community input from all areas of local organisations, schools, and mountain life and beyond.
Also thank you to all those who have delivered the Tamborine Times: Lance, Chris, Nathan, Jarrod, Michael x 2, Matthew, and in those the earlier years, Elke and Allan, in hail, rain and shine and battling the difficult mountain terrain.
To Action Print, Scott and Stuart Wood, for the 32 years of printing this publication (almost a marriage), and putting up with my many phone calls “Stop Press”, “Can you hold that page?!”. Thank you to my accountant Jackie Sherrard-Smith, ‘Applied Accounting’ for her invaluable advice and support. To my partner, Gary Ennis, who too, has gone beyond the line of duty with delivering the paper on foot in times of need, enduring my 24/7 timetable, of me being constantly tied to the phone and computer, patiently awaiting that one day when I would finally make this announcement, so we can enjoy some of our twilight years with a little travelling and without interruption.
It has been a journey with many forks in the road! We all have our reasons for being here on this mountain and being a part of this very special supporting community. I have been very fortunate and proud to have had this opportunity, as this has been a major part of my life’s journey.
But it is not goodbye from me, as you will still see me out and about enjoying all the activities and events the mountain has to offer, just without the hat!!”
We wish Barbara all the very best as her life takes on a new direction knowing she will be the fabulous star of her very own story! And who knew Barb could sing and dance like that? Wow! Congratulations on kicking high – and kicking goals!
Happy 76th Birthday Barb!
