By Community Fire Ant Treatment Program
The Tamborine Mountain community can once again treat their yards for fire ants free of charge. The National Fire Ant Eradication Program, Scenic Rim Regional Council, Tamborine Mountain Landcare and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry are calling on local residents to be a part of this coming treatment season.
Program General Manager Graeme Dudgeon said earlier this year, almost 600 households joined the fight against this serious threat to our environment in a fire ant treatment blitz. “Imagine life on Tamborine Mountain if you couldn’t have barbeques, go for walks or have picnics, without the constant threat of being attacked by fire ants,” he said, “Fire ants are a pest nobody wants in their backyard and that’s why we need to work together to take fire ants out.“
“Getting involved is very easy. Just pop into the Visitor and Information Centre on the Mountain to collect your free fire ant treatment kit for use on your property and your details will be taken on collection. There is no need to pre-register. Eligible suburbs are Eagle Heights, North Tamborine and Mount Tamborine.”
“Now that the weather is warming up, it’s a good time to treat fire ants. Each household can collect two treatment kits between now and the end of March 2022. The community fire ant treatment on Tamborine Mountain will complement planned treatment in parts of the Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, Ipswich and western Logan. We need all households taking up the fight—the more people on the Mountain treating their yards for fire ants, the better chance we’ll have stopping them moving in for good,” Mr Dudgeon said.
