Botanic Gardens Prepares Massive Plant Sale To Celebrate Springtime
The team at Tamborine Mountain Regional Botanic Gardens is preparing a massive two-day plant sale during the last weekend in September to celebrate the arrival of Springtime.
The plant sale will be open from 8am to noon on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30 at the Bobby White propagation pavilion at the southern end of the Gardens with prices ranging from $5.
Bobby White, leader of the Botanic Gardens’ legendary propagation team, said they have been working hard over the past months to prepare a large variety for visitors to select.
“We are excited to again offer a number of the spectacular bat plants,” she said. “They are native to southern Asia and certain to sell quickly so buyers need to arrive early!
“Day lilies are looking really good right now. We also have a range of irises and colourful coleus as well as a great variety of succulents.
“Another special offering is orlaya that we have grown from seed. This shrub has finely-divided leaves, and umbels of lacy pink or white flowers. It is similar to the well-known Queen Anne’s Lace which grows wild and spectacularly through hedgerows in England.
“We do ask that our visitors bring their own bags or boxes to take their purchases to the car park as we simply do not have enough supply.”
Vehicles will be available to help plant enthusiasts to take their prize purchases to their cars and the team can accept cash or card for payment.
A succulent sausage sizzle will be held close to the plant pavilion on both days.
Children are also catered for on Saturday, September 30, with special activities through Sooty Owl’s Creekside Trail.
All proceeds from the sale go to the ongoing maintenance of the Botanic Gardens.
